Michael Ioannidis is a Lead Legal Counsel at the European Central Bank (ECB) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. Michael holds degrees both in law and in economics. He graduated with distinction from the University of Athens and continued his legal studies, first in Heidelberg (LL.M.), and then in Cambridge (LL.M.). He also holds a degree in European and International Economics from the Athens University of Economics. Michael earned his PhD, summa cum laude, from the Goethe University of Frankfurt/Max Planck Institute, where he is working as a senior fellow since 2012. In 2017 he also joined the ECB. He has authored articles in various areas of public economic law, constitutional law, and EU law. He lectures at the Institute for Law and Finance of the Goethe University.
